Background:
The Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDC) is the government umbrella for the housing sector in Jordan. It is committed to be a facilitator and an enabler to the sector and has the mandate of planning, monitoring and evaluation of the performance of the housing sector.
The HUDC role in the housing sector required the development of a database for the housing information, in which the data was collected, analyzed and reported. Therefore, a Data Directorate was established in the Housing Policy Department to manage, maintain the system, and to promote the exchange of information among concerned housing sector agencies.
Housing Information System (HIS) Objectives:
- To store, classify and arrange housing information in a way that can be easily retrieved and analyzed.
- To guide the formulation of housing policies and development strategies.
- To monitor the performance of the housing sector and to present the Urban and Housing indicators, which are necessary to monitor the housing sector.
- To make housing information available for all concerned parties in the housing sector.
HIS INPUTS:
In addition to the housing information, which is generated by HUDC itself, the HUDC collects housing information, which is produced by many other national agencies such as Department of Statistics, Department of Land and Survey, Municipalities, Central Bank of Jordan, the Services and other concerned agencies.
HIS OUPUTS:
Housing information in this system is classified into 12 main categories as follows: Population and Employment, Macro Economy, Housing Stock, Housing Need, Housing Finance, Household Income and Expenditure, Infrastructure, Land Use, Building Materials Prices, Housing Production, Real–Estate Market, and Housing and Urban Indicators.
Selected output reports were chosen from the system to be presented on the HUDC homepage for the use of all concerned parties and agencies
